Connecticut Planning Regions Changes – CORRECTION
Background

RMA released PM-23-030 on June 23, 2023, with incorrect county-equivalent planning region codes. This bulletin corrects those errors; the impacted county-equivalent planning region codes are asterisked (*) in the attachment table.

In 2020, the state of Connecticut provided a formal request to the Bureau of the Census to adopt the state’s nine planning regions as county-equivalent geographic units for purposes of collecting, tabulating, and disseminating statistical data, and replacing the eight counties, which ceased to function as governmental and administrative entities in 1960. The Bureau of the Census began implementing this change internally in 2022, and public data and geospatial products reflecting the change were subsequently released. By 2024, all Bureau of the Census operations and publications, both internal and external, will use the nine new county-equivalent planning region boundaries, names, and codes.

Action

Beginning with the 2024 reinsurance year, county-equivalent planning regions will be used to identify Connecticut counties for Federal crop insurance purposes.

Approved Insurance Providers (AIP) must follow the procedures in the attachment to make needed policy conversions.
