Crop Insurance Expanded in California
Alfalfa Seed Coverage Now Available in Imperial County
Davis, Calif., May 26, 2015 — USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) will now provide Alfalfa Seed insurance coverage in Imperial County, California for the 2016 crop year. Alfalfa seed grown solely for harvest as certified seed or grown under a seed contract is insurable under the policy. The program provides protection against adverse weather conditions, failure of irrigation water supply, fire, insects or plant disease, or wildlife. Farmers have until October 31, 2015, to buy coverage on their 2016 crop.
Crop insurance is sold and delivered solely through private crop insurance agents. A list of crop insurance agents is available at all USDA Service Centers and online at the RMA Agent Locator. Producers can use the RMA Cost Estimator to get a premium amount estimate of their insurance needs online. Learn more about crop insurance and the modern farm safety net at the RMA website.
