SPRINGFIELD, Ill., June 1, 2018 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminds Ohio farmers with fall planted barley wanting to insure the subsequent crop of soybeans to talk with their agent to ensure they’re covered.

“Double crop soybeans are insurable in Ohio, but the practice is not available in all counties.” explains Brian Frieden, Director of USDA Risk Management Agency’s Springfield Regional Office.

Double crop soybeans, identified for insurance purposes as following another crop (FAC), are insurable in all counties in Ohio EXCEPT: Allen, Ashland, Ashtabula, Auglaize, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Crawford, Defiance, Delaware, Fulton, Geauga, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Holmes, Knox, Logan, Mahoning, Marion, Medina, Mercer, Morrow, Paulding, Portage, Putnam, Richland, Seneca, Shelby, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas, Union, Van Wert, Wayne, Williams, and Wyandot.

Producers that have a soybean crop insurance policy in a county without the FAC practice may request coverage through their crop insurance agent. The deadline to submit new written agreement request to insure FAC soybeans is July 15, 2018.
