VALDOSTA, Ga., Sept. 16, 2015 ― The USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminds growers of the September 30 deadline to purchase crop insurance in Georgia. This deadline applies to crop insurance policies for barley in Crisp, Jefferson, Pike, and Walton counties; canola in Bartow, Calhoun, Chattooga, Cherokee, Floyd, Franklin, Gordon, Hart, Murray, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield counties; and oats and wheat in select counties. Growers need to buy, review, or modify their crop insurance policies before the sales closing date has passed. Crop insurance provides protection against crop production losses due to natural perils such as drought, hail, and excessive moisture.
